New York and Los Angeles – Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury today announced a deal to have multi-talented entertainer and entrepreneur Nick Cannon host a new, nationally syndicated daytime talk show next year to be co-produced with his production company, Ncredible Entertainment.
After more than 20 years as a host, comedian, actor, producer, rapper, writer, director, deejay, philanthropist, children’s book author, and activist, Cannon next turns his attention to daytime talk after crushing primetime as host of two buzzworthy hit network series – FOX’s The Masked Singer, the No. 1 new show of last season (captivating more than 17 million multi-platform viewers in its record-breaking 2018 debut) and, for eight seasons, with NBC’s talent competition series, America’s Got Talent (AGT).
Debmar-Mercury Co-Presidents Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein commented, “We are excited to be able to announce this collaboration with Nick, who has proven himself to be such a dominant creative and entrepreneurial force across film, primetime TV, music, comedy, stage and online platforms. The daytime audience got to see that firsthand earlier this year with his stellar performance guest hosting The Wendy Williams Show. Now we can’t wait to see Nick put his own unique stamp on talk and add daytime to his impressive list of accomplishments.”
“After leaving America’s Got Talent, I wanted to focus on developing my own talk show. I’ve always dreamed of a platform where I can speak to America and discuss pop culture, as well as the topics on everyone's minds," said Cannon. “When I had the opportunity to guest host at my good friend Wendy Williams’ show this year, I experienced the energy and excitement of a daytime talk show and instantly knew I found my audience.”
In addition to hosting The Masked Singer and AGT, the prolific artist is perhaps best known for his work as a producer, creator and host for 13 seasons of the highly popular fan-favorite MTV sketch show, Wild ‘N Out, which the network has ordered through Season 16. In 2017, Cannon released his comedy special, Stand Up, Don’t Shoot, and concluded a cross-country live tour with select Wild ‘N Out comics and improvisation artists. In 2018, he launched the “Wild ‘N Out Live” Tour with AEG, embarking on a 25-city arena tour. “Wild ‘N Out Live” will begin a new 30-city arena tour in March 2020. He continues to thrive across many facets of the entertainment industry, including releasing music via his label, NCredible, and his full-length album, Model Music, via Republic Records; relaunching NCredible headphones partnership with T-Mobile which have sold over $80 million in retail to date, and opening the first Wild ‘N Out restaurant located on Miami’s glamorous Ocean Drive. A new Wild ‘N Out restaurant will be opening on Hollywood Boulevard this fall, as well as San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter in 2020. Additionally, Cannon hosted FOX’s TEEN CHOICE 2018, Nickelodeon’s Lip Sync Battle: Shorties, and Nickelodeon’s HALO AWARDS, which he also served as creator and executive producer. This past July, Cannon took over the Los Angeles morning drive time radio airwaves launching Power 106’s “Nick Cannon Mornings.”
